STURRIDGE TO ARSENAL
Despite helping Liverpool each the Europa League final on Thursday, Daniel Sturridge’s future at Anfield still seems uncertain. The striker is not a guaranteed starter despite overcoming his latest injury problems, and has been linked with a move away for months.
Andy Dunn of the Sunday Mirror brings us the latest. He claims that Arsenal have joined the race for the 26-year-old’s signature, and will look to make a move this summer. Just think of the potential for injuries that Sturridge would harbour at the Emirates.
Manager Arsene Wenger ‘is finally aware of the need for a top-class striker’ apparently. Was it the 15 Premier League games Olivier Giroud has gone without scoring that persuaded him?
Dunn reports that Arsenal will make a £30million bid for Sturridge, but that Liverpool value the England international considerably higher.
News from Manchester United now, and defensive target Marquinhos is not a happy boy at Paris Saint-Germain. Mundo Deportivo reports that he wants to leave.
The Spanish newspaper links just one club to the defender: Barcelona. That does not stop the Daily Express leading with the headline ‘Paris St Germain star demands to leave club: Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United on red alert’. Lovely.
Anyway, the Express go on to report that Marquinhos is unhappy at a ‘lack of game time’. Considering only six outfield players have played more PSG games this season, that’s perhaps untrue. What would be more accurate is that the Brazilian wants to play more often as a centre-half. When David Luiz is keeping you out of the team, there is plenty of reason to be a bit annoyed.
Would you like a transfer exclusive regarding the Premier League champions to finish us off? Of course you would. And Mike McGrath is the man to deliver it.
The Sun on Sunday’s man in the field claims that Leicester will target Yannick Bolasie and Troy Deeney as they look to build a squad to defend the title next season. Previous Premier League champions have signed Dimitar Berbatov, David de Gea, Carlos Tevez or Emmanuel Eboue the following summer, but they didn’t win the league with Danny Drinkwater in central midfield.
Crystal Palace winger Bolasie, 26, would cost £20million, while Watford star Deeney, 27, would cost ‘at least’ the same figure. Both could be playing Champions League football next season.
As an aside, Garth Crooks has presumably landed shifts compiling the BBC’s Gossip section on Sundays…
