Gossip: Yet more potential Arsenal signings named

LIVERPOOL OFFER CLICHY A DEAL
We mentioned Liverpool’s desperate need for a new left-back in our transfer guide, but Wednesday has thrown up an interesting name. And by ‘interesting’, we mean thoroughly uninspiring.

The Sun claim that Liverpool have offered Gael Clichy a two-year deal that would make approximately no sense at all. The Daily Mail also have wind of the story, which suggests that it has legs.

Clichy is 31, and when he left Arsenal in 2011 no supporter was particularly bothered. In six years at Manchester City he never looked better than a half-decent back-up option, and yet played 192 matches for them. Now, with City finally moving him on, he might end up at Anfield?

Somebody fetch me Clichy’s agent. I want to shake his hand.

OH LOOK, MORE ARSENAL SIGNINGS MENTIONED
Because of course Arsenal would leak more information about transfer targets on the day that Arsene Wenger’s new contract is being announced, like the PR weasels they are. Yesterday’s Mediawatch mentioned that Alexandre Lacazette, Kylian Mbappe, Marco Reus, Ross Barkley, Moussa Dembele, Jack Butland, Joe Hart, Jordan Pickford, Kieran Tierney, Jose Gaya, Carlos Bacca, Riyad Mahrez and Thomas Lemar had all been mentioned by the Daily Mirror’s John Cross as targets.

By Wednesday, the Daily Mirror add two more names to that list, Malaga attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals and forward Sandro Ramirez from the same club. Sandro is available for just £5million, and is also interesting Everton.

You’ll allow us to be a little underwhelmed by both names.

MARCO SILVA EYEING HULL RAID
You might all be sad about the end of the football season, but finding out that we’re going to see more of Marco Silva is enough to warm our hearts over this barren wasteland of June and July.

Having plumped for Watford over Crystal Palace, Silva is not hanging about. The Daily Mirror report that the Portuguese wants to raid former club Hull City for Kamil Grosicki, Omar Elabdellaoui and Eldin Jakupovic. Given that two of those signed for him in January and presumably don’t want to play in the Championship, that’s no surprise.

Jakupovic is more interesting, but Watford probably need a new goalkeeper and the Swiss international impressed during Hull’s relegation.
