Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed the club’s interest in Schalke winger Leroy Sane.

Sane, who went to the European Championship with Germany, has been linked with the club for a while, but Bayern Munich were also thought to be interested.

However, reports in Germany suggest that Bayern have now pulled out of the race, leaving the door open for City to make their move.

However, Guardiola conceded that their was a difference between the fee Schalke were expecting for Sane and the price he would like to pay.

“Sane is a player of Schalke. Of course we talk to him – Schalke knows we are interested, but at this moment we don’t have many possibilities to get him,” Guardiola told reporters.

“There is a difference between Manchester City and Schalke and it is quite big. I do not know what is going to happen but right now he is with Schalke.”

Still only 20 years old, Sane started 23 Bundesliga games last season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. He played only 11 minutes in France during Euro 2016.
