Pep Guardiola insists that Arsenal wanted to swap Alexis Sanchez with Raheem Sterling, but that he rejected the deal.
Manchester City courted Sanchez throughout the summer, and finally made a breakthrough in negotiations on transfer deadline day.
They eventually had a £60million bid accepted, but Arsenal’s inability to sign a replacement in time scuppered the deal.
There were also claims that a swap deal involving Sanchez and Sterling was on the table, but Guardiola is adamant that he never entertained the idea.
“When we started to speak with Arsenal in the last days, they wanted to make a swap with Raz,” Guardiola said. “They talked to me and I said: ‘No chance. Zero chance.
“There’s not one percent chance we will swap Raz because I trust him.
He is 22 years old, an English player, there is a lot of room to improve.”
