Ander Herrera has described Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal as “very forward and very sincere”.
The Spanish midfielder admits that Van Gaal can look “tough” from the outside but claims his uncompromising style is designed to get results.
Herrera was dropped for United’s last two victories against CSKA Moscow and West Brom as Van Gaal opted to play Wayne Rooney in the No. 10 role.
Herrera – speaking to Catalunya Radio (thanks to Sport Witness for the translation): “He’s a very demanding person, very forward and very sincere, which I value a lot. To you guys (the press), he might seem a bit tough, but I think he’s a good guy and I think he wants what’s best for the club.
“On a personal level, I have a very good relationship with him. I know he can look tough from outside the club, but from within, he’s the right guy to help us improve.”
Herrera also waxed lyrical about goalkeeper David de Gea, saying: “He’s a genius. Purely on talent, I’ve never seen someone like him and we are lucky to have him.
“The talent he has, very few have it in the world and David is one of them. It’s a blessing to have him close, and hopefully it will be for a long time.”
