Hoddle: The bigger the game, the worse Ozil plays

Glenn Hoddle has issued a scathing assessment of Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.

Speaking after Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, Hoddle praised Eden Hazard for his magnificent goal and display.

However, Hoddle then used Hazard as an example of Ozil’s bad afternoon, and believes that the German goes missing when it matters.

‘When you play the big games, you want your big players to step up. That’s exactly what he did,” Hoddle wrote in the Daily Mail.

‘The contrast with Mesut Ozil was unavoidable. The bigger the game, the better Hazard plays.

‘For Ozil, despite his record as a World Cup winner and a La Liga champion at Real Madrid, you feel it’s the opposite.’

Is that fair?
