Mamadou Sakho appears ready and willing to fight for a starting place at Anfield, saying: “I’m a Liverpool soldier.”
The Frenchman was handed his first start of the season against Bordeaux on Thursday, and starred as captain of the side in an excellent performance.
Manager Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for the 25-year-old, hinting that he could start against Norwich on Sunday, with Dejan Lovren enduring a difficult start to the campaign alongside Martin Skrtel at the back.
After impressing in France, Sakho issued the most delightful of battle cries.
“I’m always ready,” he told L’Equipe. “I’m working and I’m a Liverpool soldier. And, when you call on me, I always rise to the challenge.”
Rodgers appears keen to keep Sakho at the club despite his lack of appearances, saying, earlier in the week: “Mama is a player we want to keep. It was a difficult start for him, like all the players.”
