Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has revealed how the club persuaded Ivan Perisic that their “winning” project matched that of Manchester United’s.
The Croatia international was linked with a move to Old Trafford all the way through the summer and reports even indicated there was still a chance on deadline day.
Real Madrid star Gareth Bale was also thought to be on United’s radar but no deal ever materialised for either player.
Perisic signed a new deal at Inter to end speculation and Ausilio has explained that the club never received an official offer from the Red Devils.
“He already had a contract, we never declined any offer from Manchester United but instead we worked to convince him to stay and that our project could be as winning as the one with Manchester,” Ausilio told Sport Mediaset.
“He never felt far removed from us, and the renewal is a consequence of this.
“He didn’t ask for a minimum release clause, and so we are happy.”
