Jamie Carragher has explained Michael Owen’s intense hatred of the film industry.

Owen has previously discussed his dislike of films, stating in a 2014 interview with The Guardian: “It’s very boring, but I don’t watch films. I think I’ve seen about five in my life.”

When asked to name which films he had seen, the former Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United striker replied: “Rocky, Jurassic Park, Cool Runnings, Ghost. Um, I can’t remember any more. Er … and Heat. I’ve seen Heat. I can’t think of any more.”

Carragher has now revealed all on his former teammate, explaining that Owen cannot detach himself from reality to watch a film.

“We knew how much he hated films at Liverpool,” he told ShortList magazine. “I’d ask him why, he’d say: ‘Well it’s not real is it? Why bother when it’s not real?’ And I was like ‘Oh my God!’

“I mean, I’m not a massive film watcher, but he hated them.”
