New manager Jose Mourinho has assured Phil Jones he has a future at Manchester United, according to reports.

The signing of Villarreal defender Eric Bailly for £30million had thrown Jones’ future in to doubt, however the Daily Mirror has revealed that Mourinho thinks the England international can be United’s version of John Terry.

Jones, who only made 10 Premier League appearances for Louis van Gaal’s side last season, failed to make England’s Euro 2016 squad and reportedly feared for his Old Trafford future after an injury-hit campaign.

The center-back’s last appearance for the Red Devils came on January 2, but Mourinho is understood to have faith in Jones’ ability and wants to see what he can offer the team next term.

The Portuguese coach has reportedly been given a transfer kitty over £200million for new signings at Old Trafford as a number of players come under increased scrutiny.
