Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has praised Phil Jones for getting back to his “fresh, sharp, fast and agile” best.
A number of injuries has hampered Jones’ progression at Manchester United but the centre-back has now played seven games in five weeks as he returns to form.
With the absence of Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly, Jones’ return to the fold under Mourinho has been even more timely and his Portuguese boss is delighted with his progress.
“He’s had a big improvement in his physical condition and now he looks fresh, sharp, fast and agile – it’s a big evolution,” said Mourinho in a press conference on Monday.
“I think he already played six matches; I don’t remember the last time Phil Jones did that.”
Man United players were said to be 'furious' at fans for booing Marouane Fellaini. https://t.co/MJU0NOZUhE

On the partnership between Jones and Marcos Rojo, Mourinho told MUTV: “They’ve done very well. I think you are a journalist and you are the one who admits they deserve more.
“There is a concept sometimes around you that some players deserve more for good and for bad, more headlines than others, but I don’t think they’re worried about that.
“They’re playing well, they’re playing more than ever and better than ever, and now we have a third central defender to rotate.
“We gave a rest to Jones in Ukraine and now he played against Tottenham free of injury or tiredness; we now have a third central defender in Bailly.
“Until the end of the year, hopefully we can manage with those three in the two positions.”
