Paul Pogba pushed to join Manchester United as he felt it was his “destiny”, according to Juventus.
Pogba became the most expensive footballer in history this summer after joining United from the Italian side for £89.3m.
Juventus insisted throughout the saga that they would not sell Pogba, but eventually relented after receiving a world-record offer.
Speaking to Juventus’ official website, the club’s chief executive, Giuseppe Marotta, explained why the Frenchman pushed to leave.
“Pogba? Destiny was in his head,” he said.
“We always said we never wanted to sell as he was an important figure for the club, the coach and the fans.
“But he wanted a change of scenery and to experience a different situation, so faced with that we had to enter into negotiations and try to make him happy.”
