Keane slams ‘hapless, shameful’ Arsenal and Sanchez

Roy Keane has laid into Arsenal after their Champions League capitulation to Bayern Munich.

Arsenal lost 5-1 in the second leg of their last-16 tie with Bundesliga champions Bayern, securing a 10-2 aggregate defeat – the heaviest ever suffered by any English side in a Champions League knock-out round.

The Gunners led 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium through a Theo Walcott strike, but imploded after Laurent Koscielny’s second-half red card. Arsene Wenger was crowned our early loser for the embarrassment.

Keane was not impressed, blasting the players for “giving up”.

“I think certainly the last half an hour or 35 minutes they gave up,” Keane told ITV Sport. “There’s no forgiving that.

“There’s no shame losing to Bayern but there is when you down tools for the last half an hour and you lose 10-2. It was shameful.

“Overplaying it from the back. I bet you Bayern couldn’t believe their luck.

“I thought they were shameful the last half an hour. The goals they were giving away and people not running back. Yes they played really well in the first half but gave up in the second half. At this level, at any level, it’s ridiculous.

“You can talk how much you like but you’ve got to show how much you’re behind your manager when you’re on the pitch for 90 minutes.”

The former Manchester United midfielder then directed his ire towards Alexis Sanchez, who was just as culpable as his teammates on this occasion.

“And on the topic of Sanchez,” he began. “If you’ve got players at your football club who don’t want to be there then get them out of the door.”
