Jurgen Klopp has launched a staunch defence of Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson after “sh*t stories” earlier this week.
Henderson was dropped by Liverpool for their ‘cup final’ against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League in midweek.
It felt as though the Reds, who were brilliant in his absence, had outgrown their captain.
But Klopp has blasted speculation that he is not a key fixture in the squad as, quite simply, “sh*t”.
“Even the captain cannot play all the time,” Klopp said. “He’s in a good moment and good shape. It made sense. I only spoke about it because people would think ‘fantastic story, so make a sh*t story of it.
“Sorry… but they are sh*t stories. Give me another word for it.
“He’s such an important player for us, I don’t get why I have to say that. I live in this city and I get how people are talking, but being skipper of Liverpool is the hardest job in world football. The man before was Steven Gerrard… sorry he finished playing football.
“I want everyone to respect Jordan Henderson as our skipper. But that doesn’t mean he plays all the games.
“It’s no story except in England, especially in Liverpool, but I’m saying no story.”
