Klopp delivers verdict on Gerrard’s coaching spell

Jurgen Klopp says Steven Gerrard is doing a “good job” as Liverpool’s Under 19s manager.

Gerrard was appointed manager of Liverpool Under-19s in September, guiding them in the UEFA Youth League.

They have won six of their seven games since, with their most recent victory coming over Manchester United earlier this week.

The midfielder is expected by many to make the natural progression to becoming manager at Anfield eventually, and Klopp has been impressed thus far.

“My compliments to Stevie,” he said. “He’s doing a good job.

“I’m happy. But it was never in doubt.

“I like his desire and how he is doing the job.

“Steven and Critch [Neil Critchley, Under 23s manager] have nice teams together, but it’s more difficult for Critch now as we gave half his team away on loan.

“They are now out there trying to make a next step. We are now on the next next generation here.

“We know the boys and giving them an opportunity is always nice.”
