Jurgen Klopp expects Philippe Coutinho to return from injury to face Southampton in the Capital One Cup in midweek.

Coutinho suffered a hamstring injury in a match-winning performance against Manchester City last week, forcing him to miss the Europa League clash with Bordeaux the following Thursday.

The Brazilian sat out the victory over Swansea on Sunday as a precaution, but Klopp believes Coutinho will be available to return against Southampton in the Capital One Cup quarter-final clash on Wednesday.

“Philippe had a very intensive session yesterday [Saturday], but we decided two or three days ago that we didn’t want to risk [him] for this game [against Swansea],” he said.

“Now I think he’s fit. I saw him in the dressing room and he looks good. I’ll have to talk with him tomorrow – I think he’s ready for Southampton.”
