Jurgen Klopp admits new Arsenal signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a “great player” but Liverpool do not need a player in his position at the moment.
The Gunners completed a £56million deal for the Gabon international on Wednesday after a month of transfer speculation.
Aubameyang was linked with Liverpool last summer having played under Klopp for two years at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
Many observers expected Klopp to make a move for the forward when he became available, however the Reds boss has explained his reasons for not rivalling Arsenal for the 28-year-old.
“Auba is really a good guy,” Klopp said. “Of course, reading the newspapers, you ask yourself if all these things must happen.
“But in fact things are mostly not that controversial as they are presented. In the end everybody will be happy.
“In the first half of the season he also scored often although last summer he wanted to go to China allegedly.
“He is a great player but he does not play in a position for which we urgently need new players.”
