Klopp has ‘no explanation’ for omitting Liverpool player

Jurgen Klopp has “no explanation” as to why Dominic Solanke was again left out of Liverpool’s matchday squad.

Solanke has made 21 first-team appearances for Liverpool this season, but only four of those have been starts.

The 20-year-old has been eased into the squad after his summer arrival from Chelsea, where he was a regular in their youth sides.

He has been part of 38 matchday squads in all competitions for the Reds, as many as Dejan Lovren and more than Sadio Mane (36).

Not even on the bench for the Mohamed Salah-inspired win over Watford was “unbelievable” for the England international, claims Klopp.

“The greed is so obvious, he wants to score, he wants to score but he doesn’t forget the others, if you see the situation with Danny Ings,” Klopp said of Salah’s fourth goal, which came as a result of Ings’ saved shot.

“[Ings] was a little bit unlucky, but it’s still nice to watch that he is really good and really strong at the moment.

“Dom Solanke [was] not in the squad, that’s unbelievable. I have no explanation for that, to be honest, apart from that I can only take 16 plus two goalkeepers so it’s just good.”
