Jurgen Klopp hopes that Daniel Sturridge can take his chance in the Liverpool first team.
Sturridge is expected to start against Southampton in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
With Sadio Mane on international duty and Philippe Coutinho returning from injury, Sturridge has been presented with a rare chance to impress.
The 27-year-old has been more of a squad player this season, starting just five games in the Premier League as Klopp has favoured a more fluid attack.
But after returning from a calf injury, Klopp is hoping that the striker can finally find both form and fitness in the coming weeks.
“It would be fantastic and sometimes you need to feel lucky with timing,” he said.
“Sadio is away, Philippe is on the way back and Daniel is already back. That helps and I hope it stays like this for him.
“If Daniel is fit are there ever any arguments here about his quality? ‘No’.
“If he stays on this fitness level and improving as he always should, that is perfect.
“It is perfect news for him and for us that he can perform. It would be cool if we could speak like this for the next few weeks and months.”
