Jurgen Klopp has praised Marko Grujic after Liverpool cruised to a dominant 5-0 pre-season friendly win over Fleetwood Town.
The Reds signed the midfielder for around £5m in January, but he returned to Red Star Belgrade on loan for the remainder of the season.
He scored his first goal for the club in the win over Fleetwood on Wednesday.
The Serb opened the scoring, before Ben Woodburn, Lucas Leiva and two strikes from Roberto Firmino sunk the League One side.
Grujic celebrated his effort in a rather animated fashion, and Klopp admits that even he was surprised by how much it meant to him.
“He’s still a young lad, 20 years old,” said the German. “There is a lot he has to develop, in terms of physicality and the other footballing parts.
“He was OK tonight, absolutely, but then you saw him defending together with Trent (Alexander-Arnold) and Kev Stewart. Kev Stewart did all the work and the other two boys were a little bit in the half spaces. They have to learn, they have to improve, but they can all play football that’s for sure!
“He scored his first goal, which was very nice to see; first goal, first situation, it’s a dream. You don’t see a player celebrate like him in a friendly game very often!
“He showed that it was a big moment, but that’s nice to see. These players will improve, that is for sure.”
Grujic added: “My dream has come true, I feel very happy and proud.
“When I came here I only wanted to be with these guys. The coach gave me the chance to play in the first XI and to score and I am so happy.
“Everything from the start is perfect. The players are very friendly.
“In the next games we will try to get better and better. We will start the season ready.”
