Jurgen Klopp has joked that Liverpool will lodge a bid for Naby Keita that would more than triple the current world-record fee.
The Reds have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Keita throughout the summer, and are thought to have already lodged two bids.
The Bundesliga side have rejected both out of hand, and seem intent on keeping the Guinea international as they head into their maiden season of Champions League football.
Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl hinted that a move could be explored next summer, but that Keita would be staying for the next 12 months.
After Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Hertha Berlin on Saturday, Sky Germany asked Klopp over his continued interest in the midfielder.
With offers of £57million and £66m having already been rejected, the manager joked: “Our next offer for Keita is €300! (£268.8m)”
With Philippe Coutinho about to hand in a transfer request, perhaps he isn’t joking after all?
