Klopp: ‘Nobody could say we didn’t try’

Jurgen Klopp was as happy as any man can be after a 0-0 draw on a pitch that was frozen in parts.

Liverpool managed only two shots on target against Sion, while even his most skilful players were struggling to hold onto the ball.

The draw ensure Liverpool topped their Europa League group and Klopp declared himself satisfied with their night’s work.

When asked to be critical of the state of the pitch, Klopp said: “There is nothing to criticise because the ground was crazy to play on for both teams.

“We had to stay concentrated and we did stay concentrated for the 90 minutes. Nobody could say that we did not try, so everything is OK.

“When Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho are not able to control the ball, you know that something is wrong, but we had no injuries.

“As a professional footballer you cannot before the match talk about the pitch, but at this level usually there should be heating for the ground.

“We showed character – that is important, you can use it always. Easy games you cannot use, only the result. This was a difficult game. I was pretty satisfied with the reaction.”
