Jurgen Klopp was delighted with a “very important” Liverpool win over Leicester, and revealed his “sh*t word of the year”.

The Reds had not won in four games prior to the visit of Claudio Ranieri’s table-toppers, with defeats to Newcastle and Watford threatening to undo much of the good work done since Klopp took over.

But substitute Christian Benteke netted a second-half winner to give the hosts the points, which delighted Klopp.

“After four games with no result, that was very important today,” the manager said.

“Everybody knows of quality of Leicester and what we had to do today was play simple football.

“The first half was really good and then we had to change. Christian Benteke was not warm [when he came on for Divock Origi], it’s not easy to come into the game.”

Origi had to be substituted before half-time after impressing from the start, and Klopp said of his injury: “I did not notice it before I came to England but hamstrings is the shit word of the year for me.”

The German continued: “We made the goal, brilliant situation where the boys showed their quality in small situations. We were never really under pressure.

“We had one of the biggest chances ever late on, six versus one I think and no goalkeeper and then the ball was in our box.”
