Klopp on Sanchez: I would never sell to a rival mid-season

Jurgen Klopp says that no Liverpool player would ever be allowed to leave for a fellow Premier League club during the season.

Klopp’s comments come in the midst of Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s proposed swap deal, with Sanchez moving to Manchester United and Mkhitaryan headed to Arsenal in return.

Arsenal were expected to sell Sanchez to Manchester City after a summer move to the Etihad Stadium collapsed, but United hijacked the deal.

The move could now go ahead on Monday, and Klopp insists that he would never sanction such a deal.

“No Liverpool player of this squad would leave – and not just because we say it but because of their commitment to the club,” he said.

“No-one would leave to any other Premier League club during the season.

“I’m not just confident of that – I know it. It is just impossible. No player who is here will say, ‘OK, come on, in the middle of the season I go there or there.’

“I really cannot see that situation.”
