Klopp: Oxlade-Chamberlain has stepped out of Sanchez’s shadow

Jurgen Klopp believes that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is feeling the benefits of stepping out from under the shadow of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Liverpool signed Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal for £35m, and he was a slow starter at Anfield.

However, the midfielder has played in an advanced role in recent matches as Klopp has rotated his team.

Klopp has defended Oxlade-Chamberlain’s form in his early months at the club, and praised him for his improvement.

“He did well from the first day,” Klopp said. “If you are a big signing everyone expects immediately.

“It’s all so different, but he has become more and more a Liverpool player. He’s really fit, as you could see at Bournemouth.”

“The biggest improvement in him is being involved in goalscoring situations.

“He has it in him, but maybe he wasn’t been asked to do that so much before. There, the two decisive players were Sanchez and Ozil.”
