Klopp praises Liverpool defence for unbeaten run

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says their unbeaten run is down to “different things” but has highlighted his side’s defensive unity as a key improvement.

The Reds sit second in the standings – one point behind leaders Chelsea, level with third-placed Manchester City and two ahead of Arsenal in fourth – after an unbeaten run spanning eleven Premier League fixtures.

Liverpool have scored 32 goals this campaign – the most in the league – but Klopp has been impressed with how they’ve defended in recent weeks.

When asked what he puts their unbeaten run down to, Klopp said: “It’s due to different things. How many did we concede? 14? Five in the first two games? Neville was worried about defence, performance, strength, skills.”

“It was something to talk about but we have to think more about it from a logical point of view, you can’t play football without conceding goals all the time. Working longer together helps a lot. I’m not sure in England or just here, you like to put it on one player.

“Because of him we didn’t concede goals. It would be fantastic if it was like this, but it is a team game and having the luck in the right situation like Chelsea was when Hendo scored. You only need to fix and it’s not easy to create chances against you.

“After they outplayed you, but didn’t have good chances too often. You have to defend together, close the spaces together and make it hard as possible to come through.”
