Klopp reveals Liverpool’s ‘long meeting’ after Swansea

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits they had a ‘long meeting’ after Saturday’s damaging defeat to Swansea.

The 3-2 loss was the latest disappointing result in a difficult January that has seen them pick up just two points from three Premier League games, lose 1-0 in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final and take two games to beat League Two Plymouth.

We questioned his tactics on Saturday, chronicled his ‘mistakes’ on Sunday and gave fans a voice to complain in the Mailbox.

They now face Southampton in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final with Klopp claiming that the team feel positive.

“We had a long meeting after the game. I am ready for the rest of the season,” said Klopp.

“We have showed that we learned. Now we are ready for it. We are through the pretty intense period and we should get the benefit.

“We did really well in most of the things. As much as I like Sadio, it’s not allowed to think that our problems are because we missed Sadio.

“We made other mistakes than not scoring enough goals.

“We scored enough goals to win the games, I speak about the whole defensive work of the team, if it was that easy to buy one player then all the problems are solved. I would be silly not to do it!

“I knew about the problems we had after the Christmas period.

“For us it is absolutely important for us to finish the season as strong as possible. But we have the quality to fight for the Champions League – and if you are close enough then you can fight for a little bit more.

“We have two games and then we play Chelsea, I think then about Chelsea. We fight for everything.”
