Klopp reveals Liverpool’s target for next season

Jurgen Klopp says that Liverpool will look to “build up a stability” in his first full season at the club next year.

Klopp has led the Reds to a Capital One Cup final and a Europa League semi-final since being appointed boss in October, with the early stages of the German’s tenure showing plenty of promise.

But a 1-0 defeat to Villarreal in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final has threatened to put a dampener on progress at Anfield, with Alberto Moreno’s mistake handing the Spaniard’s a one-goal advantage heading into next week’s second leg. Matt Stead feels that Klopp made three key mistakes at El Madrigal.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s game with Swansea on Sunday, Klopp said that defensive “stability” is something his side will seek to improve upon next season.

“We solved a lot of problems. Set pieces were the worst thing. We needed to improve and we did,” Klopp said.

“When you build up a team you start with the defence. But it’s not just about speaking to the defenders. I’m never happy conceding goals.

“To build up a stability (in defence) is a big target for next season.”
