Experience triumphed over youth and speed – Kompany

Vincent Kompany says his experience of dealing with pacy forwards was crucial in shackling Man Utd’s forward line in the Manchester derby.

The City captain, making his third consecutive start for the first time this season, snuffed out the threat of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, despite Jose Mouirnho pining his hopes on the forwards hurting the hosts on the counter attack.

Kompany believes the United pair have great talent but the Belgian believes his experience shone through.

“They are lightening quick and with a bit more experience they are going to cause a lot more trouble,” Kompany said.

“Today was just a case of having played so many games against fast strikers and knowing what to do.

“Rashford and Martial have so much ability. Experience gives you that bit of an advantage.”

Kompany refused to criticise his Belgium team-mate Marouane Fellaini after the United midfielder was sent off following a clash with Sergio Aguero.

“I don’t get involved,” the defender said.

“He’s my team-mate ultimately and whether he’s red or blue I support him in every way. I don’t want to get involved.”
