Captain Vincent Kompany has warned Premier League title rivals that Manchester City are coming to catch them.

City head into their match with Liverpool on Wednesday night ten points behind leaders Leicester City with two games in hand.

However, defender Kompany, who skippered City to Capital One Cup glory on Sunday, reckons his City side have the know-how to force their way back into title contention.

“What we’ve learned in our recent history is that in moments like this, you just have to get your head down and start racing as much as you can. It’s what we call the hunting season,” Kompany told City’s official club website.

“So we’re not going to look back or do anything other than focus on the opponents that we have to play.

“There’s no other way to approach this any more. You can’t come with mathematics or anything like this.”

The Belgium international says everyone at the club is focused on the task in hand after losing their last two league games.

“We still have a lot to play for but nothing to lose any more. It’s a weird feeling but, as I say, it is hunting season so it’s better to be chasing than be chased in some ways,” the defender said.

“The whole organisation – everyone at the club – has to have the knife between the teeth and know that now everyone needs to be as sharp and focused as ever.”
