Leicester want to sign Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez in a deal which could see the club break its transfer record, according to reports.

Claudio Ranieri has made a new forward to provide competition for Jamie Vardy one of his main targets for the summer transfer window.

And according to The Guardian, the Foxes are preparing a deal for Perez, who is Deportivo’s top scorer this season with 17 goals. Only two players outside of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have scored more in Spain.

The £9million capture of Rijeka striker Andrej Kramaric, who is currently on loan at 1899 Hoffenheim, represents Leicester’s current transfer record, but Perez is expected to exceed that cost, given that the 27-year-old’s contract does not expire for another three years.

Meanwhile, the report suggests the Premier League champions are in advanced negotiations with Sporting Gijon centre-back Luis Hernandez, 27, who will arrive on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer.

Ranieri hopes to strengthen every area of his squad as he begins to prepare for next season’s Champions League.
