Leicester’s Drinkwater in contention for England call-up

Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater is under serious consideration for a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for next month’s friendlies.

Drinkwater has been in superb form this season, with his midfield partnership with N’Golo Kante credited as one of the driving forces behind the Foxes’ stunning ascent to the top of the Premier League.

Hodgson watched Leicester twice last week, when Drinkwater excelled again in victories over Liverpool and Manchester City. The Daily Mail reports that the former England youth international could be handed the chance to impress the senior coaches next month.

Drinkwater’s team-mate Jamie Vardy will be one of around 40 England players heading to St George’s Park on Thursday for a get-together ahead of March’s friendlies against Germany in Berlin and Holland at Wembley.

Hodgson will bring together the players he has used during the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign and most recent friendlies, with the coach taking the opportunity to properly debrief his squad following the defeat to Spain and victory over France in November.
