Liverpool boost as Barca ponder Ozil move – report
Barcelona are reportedly considering a January move for Mesut Ozil, which could be welcome news for Liverpool.
Germany star Ozil is out of contract at the end of the season and Arsenal are understood to be willing to sell in the New Year to avoid losing one of their biggest assets for nothing in the summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca are looking at Ozil as an alternative to Philippe Coutinho.
The Catalans failed with three bids last summer for the Brazil playmaker, with Liverpool digging in their heels, despite Coutinho’s desire to move to the Nou Camp.
Barca are understood to retain a keen interest in Coutinho but with Ozil as a cut-price alternative, Liverpool may find it easier to resist the La Liga side’s overtures.
Mundo Deportivo also reports that Barca will sign at least one player in January, possibly two if they can shift one of Arda Turan, Aleix Vidal or Denis Suarez off the books.
