Liverpool legend encourages Sturridge to ‘stick in there’

Robbie Fowler has told Daniel Sturridge not to give up on his hopes of making the Liverpool first team despite being shipped out to West Brom.

With the 2018 World Cup coming up, Sturridge is desperate to find form once again to order to force himself into Gareth Southgate’s plans.

After struggling for game time at Anfield, the 28-year-old was sent out on loan to West Brom in the January transfer window.

However, despite Jurgen Klopp’s insistence that Sturridge wanted to leave Anfield in last month, Fowler does not believe that signals the end of his Liverpool career.

“Daniel’s still one of the best English strikers around, and has proven that over a number of years,” Fowler told the Daily Star.

“I know he’s had a tough time with injuries but I would never have a go at any player if they had done what he has.

“He is a proud man, he wants to play games, score goals. A fit and firing Daniel Sturridge is one of the top English strikers still.

“If the team is playing well, scoring goals then there isn’t that much you can do. You have to bide your time, if that’s what you want to do, and hopefully you get a chance.

“It’s up to players, Daniel included, to stick in there and do as well as what the others are doing. On his day is a very good player.”
