Georginio Wijnaldum has explained why he chose to join Liverpool over Tottenham in summer 2016.
Wijnaldum signed for Liverpool for around £20million at the start of Jurgen Klopp’s first full season.
The Dutchman scored six goals in his first season, including a crucial strike against Middlesbrough on the final day which helped the club to Champions League qualification.
Wijnaldum had been the subject of much speculation upon leaving Newcastle in summer 2016, and Tottenham were also linked.
But the 27-year-old says Klopp made the difference in his decision.
“The first two questions Klopp asked me were not about football and I liked that,” he told the Daily Mail.
“He asked about my family and my relationship with them. It was nice.”
