Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho says his “friend” Barcelona star Neymar is his and Brazil’s “greatest player”.

Coutinho has played with Neymar on several occasions for their national team but the Barca star – who has scored 50 goals for the Selecao – has almost three times the amount of caps as the former Inter Milan man.

The Reds ace has been ruled out for five weeks with an ankle injury picked up in their 2-0 victory over Sunderland last weekend and has found time to speak to FourFourTwo about the current Brazil idol.

“He’s Brazil’s greatest idol nowadays. He’s our greatest player for me, even though we are friends and have the same age,”

“I know for sure that so many Brazilians feel the same.

“We get very excited with his performances with the Selecao and Barcelona.”
