Liverpool are considering a move for Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas in the January transfer window, according to reports.
The Spaniard won five La Liga titles and lifted the Champions League on three occasions during his 17-year spell at the Bernabeu.
Simon Mignolet has started all but one of Liverpool’s Premier League matches this season with Loris Karius appearing in all of the Champions League fixtures.
Neither goalkeeper has impressed between the sticks this campaign and Mignolet was again guilty of two high-profile errors in the Reds’ 4-1 loss against Tottenham at Wembley.
El Pais claim that Jurgen Klopp thinks he has given the pair adequate chances to prove they are up to being Liverpool’s long-term number one but they haven’t shown the necessary pedigree.
And now the report suggests that he will move for Casillas – who currently represents Porto – in a bid to solve his defensive woes.
The Spanish publication continues by claiming that Porto would be willing to let Casillas leave in an attempt to reduce their wage bill, while it also reports that Newcastle are interested.
