Liverpool face missing out on Virgil van Dijk this summer unless they submit a ‘ridiculous’ offer to Southampton.
The Reds identified Van Dijk as their only central defensive target this summer, and were closing in on a move for the Dutchman in June.
Liverpool had to abandon the move and were forced to apologise for their conduct however, and Southampton have since stated in no uncertain terms that they do not wish to sell.
With the transfer window closing on Thursday evening, the Daily Mail have provided one final update on the 26-year-old’s future.
They report that Southampton are ‘99.9 percent’ certain’ of keeping the player, and it would require a ‘ridiculous’ offer to sell him.
Van Dijk is one, while Monaco winger Thomas Lemar is the other.
