France goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris admits that Paul Pogba’s performance against Romania on Friday night left a lot of room for improvement.
Despite being hailed as the best young midfielder in world football, Pogba was substituted by manager Didier Deschamps in their opening clash of the tournament.
With Pogba off the pitch, Dimitri Payet scored the winner; there is even talk of Pogba being dropped for Wednesday night’s clash with Albania. N’Golo Kante is now arguably the first name on Deschamps’ team sheet.
There are rumours of talks between Deschamps and Pogba about his faltering form for the national side.
Lloris said: “I can’t comment on whether there have been talks with Paul Pogba or not. But clearly we can expect a bit more from the player.
“That was still our first match and everyone was finding their feet. What was important was that the team won the match.
“He, like the rest of the team, is going to improve. I don’t have any doubts that in the key moments of the matches we play he will really come to the fore of the French national side.”
