Romelu Lukaku does not understand why Everton are in a lowly 11th position; he claims they should be in the top four or six.
The Belgian is baffled by the Toffees’ poor run of form despite being blessed with the talents of Lukaku, Ross Barkley, John Stones, Gerard Deulofeu and others.
We have repeatedly said that Everton are under-achieving under Roberto Martinez and the striker – level with Jamie Vardy on 15 Premier League goals for the season – clearly agrees.
“We shouldn’t be in this situation,” Lukaku told Sky Sports News HQ. “Sometimes I still don’t get it. But that’s football and we need to work hard, stick together and turn it around.
“As a team we know we should be higher, we have a lot of potential and a lot of experience too. We are a team that should be fighting for the top four or top six.
“But at the moment it’s not going the way we want. We know we have a lot of quality in the side and we know we can play some of the best football in the league, so it’s disappointing, but hopefully we can turn it around.”
