Riyad Mahrez “deserves better than Leicester,” according to his national team manager.
Mahrez was the subject of late interest from Manchester City in the January transfer window.
The Premier League leaders are reported to have made three offers for the Algerian winger, but Leicester rejected each out of hand.
The Foxes value the player at £95million and City were unwilling to match that price.
Mahrez has been absent from training since the move broke down, and Algeria head coach Rabah Madjer has recommended that he returns to the club.
But Madjer added that the winger has earned his chance to take a step up from the King Power Stadium.
“Mahrez currently deserves better than Leicester. But we must not forget that it was Leicester who put him on the right track,” Madjer told Goal.
“I think a serious conversation with his board is needed. He wants to go to a bigger club in the English league. I do not know what really happened about his transfer.
“Me, I advise him to resume training and work hard, even if the transfer has not been resolved.”
