Man City prepared to sell Aguero – says Duncan Castles
Manchester City are ‘prepared to listen to offers’ for striker Sergio Aguero, according to an exclusive from…Duncan Castles.
Aguero has scored 18 goals in 23 games under Pep Guardiola this season, but it is believed that his new manager remains unconvinced that he is a fit in his City squad.
Castles, writing for Yahoo, claims that Guardiola does not see the Argentinean as suitable for his ‘tactically fluid’ ideals.
The exclusive goes on to state that Aguero’s injury and disciplinary problems are also a worry. Castles writes:
‘Key City decision makers also harbour significant concerns over the Argentina’s striker’s fitness and disciplinary record. Now in his sixth year at Eastlands, Aguero has yet to start more than 31 Premier League games in a single campaign, and has averaged just 26 League starts per season.
‘Aguero’s susceptibility to muscular injury is such that City’s medical department is understood to consider it almost impossible to keep the free scoring forward in excellent physical condition for an entire domestic and European campaign.
‘When he is fit to play, the Argentine’s irascibility has proved a further problem area with Aguero already missing six matches through suspension since Guardiola’s arrival.’
The arrival of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus could also facilitate a sale, with the 19-year-old arriving for £27million from Palmeiras earlier this month. He will go straight into the squad to face Tottenham on Saturday.
Jesus is seen as Aguero’s ‘long-term successor’, meaning that the club can ‘take a calculated decision to float’ the 28-year-old on the transfer market.
We have two questions:
- Who exactly will be in the market to sign Aguero? Considering the fee City would demand and the wages he would want, we can count the realistic suitors on one hand. Chinese Super League clubs can dream on for a few more years, surely.
- Who at Manchester City is giving exclusives to friend of Jose Mourinho, Duncan Castles?
