Jose Mourinho will try and sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale before Thursday night’s transfer deadline, according to a source in Spain.
Manchester United have added Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic to their ranks this summer, but they have so far been unable to add a winger.
Ivan Perisic was a target for Mourinho, but United have not been able to get the Croatia star away from Inter Milan and now Don Balon claim Mourinho will go for Bale.
Bale has been in Mourinho’s thought all summer, and the Portuguese boss is “prepared to make a club-record €100million bid for the Welshman before the transfer window closes” at 11pm tomorrow.
Bale, who is currently away with Wales, was booed by Real Madrid fans in the recent 2-2 draw against Valencia, and the Wales star apparently wants to work with Mourinho and would only consider a move to Old Trafford.
Real boss Zinedine Zidane backed Bale to succeed in Madrid after the Valencia game, saying he was a “key player” in his squad.
But sections of the Spanish press are calling for Marco Asensio, who scored both Real goals against Valencia, to keep his place even when Cristiano Ronaldo returns from his suspension.
Speaking earlier in the summer, Mourinho said: “If he’s not in the club’s plans and what you are writing is true, that the arrival of another player then Gareth would be on his way out of Real Madrid, I would try to be waiting for him on the other side and be fighting with the other coaches who would like to have him on their team.”
