Man United ‘to offer Mourinho new deal’ – CL or not

Manchester United are expected to offer Jose Mourinho a new contract at the end of the season, according to the Daily Mirror.

Mourinho was appointed United manager last summer, replacing Louis van Gaal on a three-year contract.

The club face Southampton in the Capital One Cup final later this month, and are in a favourable position in the knockout stages of both the Europa League and FA Cup.

They sit just sixth in the Premier League however, with Champions League qualification uncertain.

Twelve points separate them from leaders Chelsea, while the gap from United to second-placed Manchester City is just four points.

However, the Daily Mirror claim that United ‘are planning to open talks at the end of the season’ with the 53-year-old – whether or not he delivers a top-four finish.

In turn, Mourinho has reportedly made it clear that he would be open to extending his contract at the club.
