Marseille have moved quickly to strengthen their leaky defence with the acquisition of Rolando, Mauricio Isla and Paolo De Ceglie from FC Porto and Juventus respectively.
New head coach Michel has been forced to act quickly in the market after the abrupt departure of Marcelo Bielsa left the French side in disarray and a squad filled with players that played within the Argentine coach's philosophy.
The trio completes Les Phocéens transfer activity after a busy summer, with no less than 15 new faces arriving at the club following the high-profile departures of Dimitri Payet, Andre Ayew, Andre-Pierre Gignac and Gianni Imbula.
Rolando, who was once rated as one of the best centre-backs in Europe during his stint at Porto, expressed his delight after his move was finalised.
"I'm in a very important club, the only one to win the Champions League for France; it's my birthday present," he said.
