Anthony Martial says he is a striker, but he “loves playing wide” for Manchester United.
United’s £36million man believes he gets so involved in the games that he often forgets to take up goalscoring positions.
The 20-year striker, who has scored 12 goals in 38 games since he arrived from Monaco in the summer, also admits he loves to play out on the left wing.
“I am a striker but I love playing wide,” Martial told Sky Sports. “The main thing is wherever I play I enjoy it and help the team.
“I must continue to work hard in training. I need to think more like a goalscorer, sometimes I get so immersed in the game because I love general play so much.
“Someone like Cristiano Ronaldo focuses on scoring to progress, so perhaps I need to think more about scoring.”
Martial also revealed he is settling in well into life in Manchester.
“I don’t go out a lot as I like to stay in,” he added.
“I often go for dinners with my girlfriend and I love to see movies at the cinema but I don’t understand them. We go for walks and to the shops.”
Martial, who could cost United as much as £56.7million, has been used as a frontline striker or as a left winger by in his seven months at Old Trafford.
After Martial’s fine curled effort against Stoke in February, boss Louis van Gaal admitted that the youngster’s form had surprised him.
“He was 19 (when he signed) and now he is 20 so that is surprising when you come from the French league to the Premier League and you can do this,” said Van Gaal.
