Martial reminds Man United legend Cantona of Ronaldo

Eric Cantona says Manchester United forward Anthony Martial reminds him of legendary Brazil striker Ronaldo.

United raised plenty of eyebrows by signing Martial from Monaco in a deal which could eventually rise to €80million on deadline day in August.

However, the 20-year-old has been one of the few positives in a largely turgid season at Old Trafford, scoring 17 goals in all competitions, and the Frenchman’s performances have caught the eye of former United hero Cantona.

“Martial is very mature for his age. I think he’s the same kind of player as Ronaldo,” Cantona told MUTV.

“Of course Ronaldo is a Brazilian, but he’s as strong as him. Martial is skillful, he wants to score goals and he has good vision.”

The France international’s performances have not gone unnoticed by other clubs, and reports last week suggested PSG have made contact with Martial’s representatives after earmarking the forward as a potential replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

But Martial insists he is happy at Old Trafford, and has vowed to be even better next season.

“You never know what happens in the future but certainly the fans have really accepted me and I think the fact they sing this song about me all the time shows that they’re quite happy with me,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

“I think it’s gone OK but I’m hoping to have a better season next time around. I still feel deep down I could have done better.”
