Mata discusses ‘lies’ about relationship with Mourinho
Juan Mata insists reports he has a difficult relationship with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho are all “lies”.
Spanish midfielder Mata was among the names linked with an exit from Old Trafford when Mourinho was announced as Louis van Gaal’s successor, having been sold by the Portuguese while at Chelsea.
However, Mata has impressed this term, with Mourinho suggesting the 28-year-old has found his “natural habitat” following his £37.1million move to United.
“Many lies were told about me and Mourinho when he arrived at the club this summer and it bothered me that every day I had to read and listen to rumours that weren’t true. With him I’m fine,” Mata said.
“You read a lot of comments on Facebook and Twitter but they just make you laugh.
“I really want to lift titles at Manchester United, the Premier League is a trophy I have never won but I believe we can do it with this group.”
After missing out on selection for Euro 2016 this summer, Mata has earned a recall to the Spain squad under new boss Jean Lopetegui.
“It was disappointing not to go to the European Championships this summer,” Mata added. “But I’m happy to be back involved and Lopetegui is a good manager.”
