Newcastle manager Steve McClaren has warned every player – including new signings Florian Thauvin and Georginio Wijnaldum – that they could be dropped for Saturday’s clash with Watford.
Both Thauvin and Wijnaldum were substituted during Monday night’s woeful defeat to West Ham, while Papiss Cisse attracted widespread criticism for his performance.
The Magpies have scored just two Premier League goals this season and Monday’s game saw only right-back Daryl Janmaat and substitute Siem de Jong record shots on target.
“After Monday any player could be a bit worried,” admitted McClaren. “We haven’t scored goals or looked like scoring goals.
“We need a reaction on Saturday – no excuses. St James’ has to be a fortress and a difficult place for Watford to come and play.”
