Simon Mignolet: New lease of life

Simon Mignolet has hailed the impact Jurgen Klopp has had at Liverpool, saying “a lot has changed” since the German’s arrival.

The former Borussia Dortmund chief took charge at Anfield last month and the wave of optimism that his arrival brought helped the Reds go six matches unbeaten under Klopp, before Crystal Palace recorded a 2-1 win  to consign the club to their first defeat since September 12.

Mignolet, who is currently away with the Belgium squad during the international break, told Sky Sports News HQ that much of the club’s improvement is down to Klopp’s management.

“I think it was a month ago when he arrived. In that month a lot has changed. He has already improved us a lot. A lot of things have changed but we already look forward to the future,” he said.

Defeat to Palace left Liverpool 10th in the Premier League table on 17 points, seven points off Manchester United in the fourth and final Champions League place.

Liverpool face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium – a ground where they have not claimed victory since January 2012 – following the international break.

And Mignolet is already looking forward to the challenge of toppling the league leaders.

“It is very important,” he said. “It is a huge fixture and we look forward to that one. After the international duty we will make sure we prepare ourselves the best we can.”
